NES @ CeBIT 2013

At CeBIT (5th to 9th March, Hanover), the world’s leading exhibition for the digital economy, the research group NES of Prof. Marrón of the University of Duisburg-Essen is represented this year for the first time with its own stand.

In CeBITlab (Hall 9), with focus on Research & New Technologies, Professor Dr. Pedro José Marrón and his team, the Networked Embedded Systems Group, are presenting the results of various projects funded by the European Commission. The organization was possible with the organizational and creative support of the SSC of the University Duisburg-Essen.
Center of the presentation is the project PLANET (Platform for the deployment and operation of Heterogeneous Networked Cooperating Objects, funded by the European commission with the 7th framework).
The main objective of PLANET is the design, development and validation of an integrated platform to enable the deployment, operation and maintenance of large-scale/complex systems of heterogeneous networked cooperating objects, including wireless sensor and actuator networks. Using these technologies, it will be possible to easily deploy a large number of sensors and unmanned aerial Vehicles in an area for monitoring purposes, purposes, such as for wildlife observation or safe operation of an automated airport. This increases the quality of security and safety in critical applications and could allow for the use of sensor network and unmanned vehicle technologies in areas such as disaster management and rescue operations.

Besides PLANET the European Project GAMBAS and UBICITEC e.V. the European Center for Ubiquitous Technologies and Smart Cities will be presented.
